Goals of the Group

The goals of the ""Embracing Aging"" support group are:
a) To create a safe and supportive space for older adults
b)To offer coping strategies and resources for navigating aging challenges
c) To encourage engagement in activities that bring joy and fulfillment
d) To promote understanding and empathy about the unique challenges older adults face
e) To provide support for managing health, finances and emotions.
f) To foster new relationships and connections
g) To explore and discuss societal attitudes and stereotypes related to aging.
The overall goal of the group is to create a supportive community that empowers older adults to navigate the challenges of aging and find joy and fulfillment in their journey.

Who is the group for?

This group is for older adults who are looking to embrace their aging journey and navigate life's challenges with a supportive community. You could be living with familoy or living alone. You could be still working or enjoying your retired life. You could be dealig with a specific challenge - like dealing with a chronic health condition or grieving the loss of a loved one. It's a safe space and we have something for everyone

What will we talk about?

a) Finding joy and meaning in life - Importance of finding joy and fulfillment in life as one ages, and explore ways to explore new hobbies and interests, volunteer and stay engaged.
b)Explore different types of loss older adults may experience and discuss coping strategies.
c) Navigating Family Dynamics - Explore strategies for communicating effectively, setting boundaries, and finding support.
d) Managing Health and Financial Issue
e) Maintaining Independence and Social Connections
f) Exploring Societal Attitudes and Stereotypes
g)Managing Emotions and Mental Health

What happens in a group session?

While the format can vary as per topic, here’s a flow that most sessions follow

Check In. Participants check-in with each others' feelings and answer the prompt given by the facilitator if any.

Conversation. Your facilitator will guide the group in a free-flowing conversation—with the goal of sharing openly, talking honestly, and deep emotional connection.

Check Out. Participants share what they're taking away from the session.

What am i going to get out of this?

Participants say that they feel heard, understood, more in control, and a feeling that you’ve got people rooting for you. By talking about your emotions and what's going on in your life, you'll realise that you're not alone and get ideas for how to improve your situation.
