Glimpse of the regime

Session 1: What is my relationship with my loneliness?

- Sharing experiences of loneliness in a safe, confidential space
- Reflecting on our relationship with loneliness and its navigation
- Reflection on our deep connections
- Activities to foster connection and self-awareness
- Share some words/sentences which describe your relationship with your loneliness. These will be kept aside and seen in the 4th session to reflect on any changes in these understandings, if we want to change them or not.

Session 2: Being off the timeline

- Reflecting on the experience of loneliness during transitions in your 20's and being off the timeline
- Reflective questions and activities to foster self awareness, connection and comfort

Session 3: Social media and loneliness

- Reflecting on experiences of social media, connection and isolation, comparison and validation
- Differentiating and reflecting on FOMO vs JOMO (Fear of missing out vs Joy of missing out)
- Redefining connections
- Discussing how to set healthy boundaries with social media
- Activity: scrolling through social media and reflecting on our feelings; further discussion on how we want our social media to be

Session 4: Self-Compassion & Building Meaningful Connections

- How do I speak to myself when I feel lonely?
- What stops me from reaching out or accepting support?
- What kind of connections truly nourish me? - Finding our people: What qualities make a connection feel safe and nourishing?
- Each person writes down one small, realistic action they can take toward self-compassion or building connections (e.g., reaching out to an old friend, joining a group, setting boundaries with negative self-talk).
- Reflection on the descriptions of our relationship with loneliness we discussed in the first session:
- Do we want to stick with the same description?
- Are there any changes/ how?
- What do we want to take away from these changes over the past 4 weeks?

Meet your Facilitator

Sanjana and Sanya

Sanjana is a counselling psychologist with a year of experience. She works with a mix of person-centred therapy, narrative therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy, while also holding a feminist, intersectional, and social justice-oriented lens in the way she relates to people in therapy.

She believes that community plays a big role in our mental health and in how we make sense of life. Through this support group, she hopes to offer a space where people can find connection, comfort, community, and kinship.

Sanya is a psychologist and community mental health professional. She is an ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) practitioner who also draws from narrative therapy and psychodynamic approaches. Sanya believes that the most important relationship we hold is the one with ourselves—and that growth happens through ongoing curiosity about oneself and lots of unlearning, and reconnection. Through this support group, she aims to create a nurturing space where individuals can explore their inner worlds with compassion and build meaningful connections with self and others that foster understanding, love and resilience.

More about Support Groups & Therapy Groups:

1. What is an online therapy or support group?

Online therapy groups or support groups are structured, therapist-led sessions where participants gather virtually to discuss and work on specific mental health or personal growth topics.

These groups offer a supportive environment and help members learn coping strategies and relevant techniques from the therapist. Participants offer each other encouragement, share advice, and provide emotional support, helping one another feel less isolated.

2. What benefits can I expect from joining an online therapy group or support group?

Participants in online therapy groups often experience improved mental health, a greater sense of connection, and enhanced coping skills. Group therapy provides structured guidance from a therapist, which can lead to valuable insights and personal growth.

3. How does online group therapy compare to one-on-one therapy?

One-on-one therapy is personalized, focusing solely on your needs, which can be ideal for in-depth, private work with a therapist.

Online group therapy, however, offers a sense of community and shared experience. In addition to learning from the therapist, members get to connect with others facing similar challenges. Group settings provide diverse perspectives and reduce isolation, which participants find valuable.

4. Are online groups effective?

Yes, studies show that online groups can be as effective as in-person groups. The online format provides convenience and accessibility while offering the same structured therapeutic benefits, especially for those who prefer the comfort of their home environment.

5. Will I have to share my personal journey in the group?

Sharing is encouraged but never forced. Participants are free to share only what they feel comfortable with, and many find that opening up gradually is natural and helpful for their own growth.

6. How do online therapy groups or support groups handle difficult emotions that arise?

The therapist leading the group is trained to manage challenging emotions. They provide tools and strategies for coping, helping participants process feelings safely.

7. Can I attend online therapy groups if I’m already in individual therapy?

Yes, many people find that group therapy superbly complements individual therapy, providing additional insights and social support, thus accelerating their healing. Also, users often join group therapy for a topic that they are not focusing on in their individual therapy sessions. Often, therapists themselves recommend their clients to group therapy for a specific area of their life.

8. How do I know if a support group is right for me?

If you’re looking for shared experiences and emotional support rather than structured therapeutic guidance, a support group may be ideal. Otherwise, consider a therapy group for a more structured approach.

You can also join more than one group if you feel it will benefit you, especially if each group focuses on a different aspect of your mental health journey.
