Mine is story of being stuck in a job I despised for 6 long years. I tried almost everything to fit in as leaving was risky for my family as I was the primary earner of the family and a government job is a very secure position. For me, though, it was a prison. I was scared of the uncertainties yet I finally decided to leave the job and started preparing for MBA entrance. At least I wouldn't have to regret later in life that I didn't try. Fortunately, I got into IIML, but Covid hit, and the job market went bust. It was a challenging time, and I started feeling the weight of my hefty education loan too. After about more than 50 applications or so, I finally landed a job with a prestigious firm, and made a complete career change . Cherry on top - I absolutely love my work here.
Taking the risk and nailing it has given me a newfound confidence and optimism. And I feel that it prepared me to face the next challenge of my life that ended up being far more difficult - Cancer.
I've been dealing with cancer for a year now, with a long gruelling period of chemo last year. Almost whole of 2022, I spent admitted to the hospital including a few ICU visits as well. I lost 13 kgs in just the first month of 12 chemo sessions and there were still 43 sessions more to go. Due to infection risks, I was not even allowed to meet people except my immediate family, which added to my despair. Thankfully, I accepted my situation early and didn't drown in negative thoughts. And now work and music keep me going, but I know I have two more years of treatment ahead. Despite the challenges, I'm determined to experience all that life has to offer.
I understand the value of being able to talk to someone who can relate to ones difficulties. So if you ever need someone to talk to about your struggles, I'm here.
