Goal of the Group

The smoking cessation support group aims to help participants quit smoking by addressing the psychological, emotional, and behavioral aspects of addiction. The goal is to equip participants with practical tools, coping mechanisms, and motivation to achieve long-term abstinence, promoting healthier lifestyles and mental well-being.

Cluster 1: Understanding the Addiction and Motivation

Session 1: Introduction & Understanding Smoking Addiction

• Group introduction and establishing trust.
• Setting personal goals and objectives for quitting.
• Understanding nicotine addiction: physical and psychological components.
• Recognizing the triggers and patterns of smoking behavior.
• Homework: Keeping a smoking diary to track patterns and triggers.

Session 2: Motivation & Readiness to Quit

• Exploring reasons for quitting and addressing ambivalence.
• Building motivation: Benefits of quitting vs. consequences of continuing.
• Identifying individual smoking triggers (stress, boredom, social situations).
• Techniques for increasing readiness and confidence to quit.
• Homework: Personal reflection exercise on "Why I want to quit."

• Role of nutrition, exercise, and sleep in supporting the quitting process.

Session 5: Addressing Relapse and Maintaining Progress

• Relapse prevention: understanding why relapse happens and how to manage it.
• Learning from past quit attempts and recognizing early signs of relapse.
• Developing a relapse prevention plan and strengthening coping strategies.
• Group discussion: Sharing challenges and successes in the journey to quit.
• Homework: Refining the quit plan with added strategies for maintaining long-term
success.

Saee Patwardhan

Saee comes with 3+ years of experience as a psychotherapist. She comes with extensive experience in addiction therapy. Previously worked as a Clinical Psychologist at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), India, specializing in tobacco cessation, Saee is trained in a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and is queer affirmative.

Her client-centred approach ensures that individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout their journey. Through this group on smoking cessation, she guides individuals through behavioral strategies and emotional support to reduce cravings and manage triggers.
Saee offers tailored, effective interventions that meet each client's unique needs, with a steadfast commitment to ethical standards and the delivery of top-quality treatment at the core of their practice.

How is confidentiality maintained in Groups?

Confidentiality in Support Groups is maintained using secure meeting links and enabling waiting rooms to control participant access. Participants are bound by mutual confidentiality clause within the group. and sessions are not recorded without explicit consent.

Are Group sessions done on video?

Yes, all group sessions are conducted on video via Zoom.

While participants are allowed to use pseudonyms - they need to be on video to make the most of the session.

What is SoulUp's refund policy on Groups?

1. After you have registered for the group and you'd like to opt out:
- Full refund if you cancel 30 days before the group start date.
- 50% refund if you cancel 16-30 days before the group start date.
- No refund if you cancel 0-15 days before the group start date.

2. If SoulUp cancels a group, we will refund the entire signup fee.

3. If SoulUp reschedules a group by more than 2 weeks, we will inform you and give you an option to opt out and get a full refund.

4. SoulUp reserves the right to remove participants from a group if found unsuitable to the group. In such cases participants are given the option of claiming the pro-rata amount left as a refund or using it for another service on SoulUp.
