Fibromyalgia and extreme chronic pain turned my life upside down, reduced my functionality and mobility which limited my life drastically. The dream job, the social life, friends, travel, fun, relationships poof - all vanished.
It took me a couple of years to find a new identity for myself....wasn't easy...I grappled, struggled, and eventually came to terms with my new normal. It was a process like grieving. I had to go through all stages...denial, anger, bargaining followed by acceptance. With this acceptance came the strength to fight my battle with fibromyalgia.
I decided that my body could be a slave of chronic pain but I would not let it enslave my mind. Very early on I made sure that I would not let depression step into my life - so I redefined my happiness. I started finding it in the smallest of things whether it was something as basic as getting a good home cooked meal, watching a good show, a good song, finding a new stray to feed etc.
