  • This was probably the best decision I have ever made, before I used to masturbate a few times a day, feel like shit after every time I did it, "try" to quit, give up the next day because urges where way to strong and the cycle never ended.

    Nikhil

    (he/him)

  • For the first time I could talk about my experiences and problems without fear of judgement. That was half battle won. Thanks for creating this space.

    Vipul

    (he/him)

  • For years I thought I was the only one feeling the way I did - I felt like a freak. Understanding the basics of why I feel what I feel was helpful and techniques shared were quite actionable.

From NoFap to Saying Yes To Help: Journey of Our Porn De-addiction Support group

This week, I concluded a cohort for a support group on porn de-addiction, and I am filled with immense pride for the progress the participants made. In a world where porn addiction is both stigmatized and normalized, it was heartening to see individuals take steps towards change, armed with evidence-backed information.

One of the key takeaways from the group was their ability to discern fact from fiction. With so much pseudoscience circulating the internet about porn addiction, and just addiction in general, the participants learned to identify what is scientifically valid and what is merely sensationalized misinformation. This clarity gave them a solid foundation to build healthier habits and perspectives.

Another significant shift was their approach to recovery. Instead of obsessing over "streaks" of not watching porn or masturbating, the focus shifted to control and harm reduction. Participants learned to delink sex for pleasure from compulsive porn consumption, recognizing how to separate these two experiences healthily.

The group also delved deep into identifying their personal triggers. Many realized that they often turned to porn as a coping mechanism for stress, loneliness, or other emotional challenges. Through our sessions, they discovered alternative ways to cope, leading to transformative behavioral changes. And hence the focus changed not because of willpower but because of an understanding of themselves.

Highlights of their achievements include participants who reduced their porn consumption from daily use to just a couple of times a week. Some went so far as to unsubscribe from paid porn services, while others opened themselves up to the idea of individual therapy to tackle the deeper emotional issues driving their habits.

In India, where discussions around men’s struggles with addiction are rare and porn consumption is often glorified, these breakthroughs are nothing short of remarkable. This group exemplified the power of vulnerability, open discussion, and evidence-based learning in achieving real change.

This journey is just the beginning for these participants, and I’m confident that the tools they’ve gained will continue to support them in their recovery.
