Goals of the Group

People are not built to survive by themselves and require support from the world around them. However we often find ourselves lacking the necessary social support we need to deal with our emotional crises. The aim of this group is to try and meet that need in some form. We want to create a space where members can share their experiences with each other and connect with people who might be struggling with depression, while also exploring differing perspectives. We also hope to help the members create a peer network that can provide support on different levels to meet their varied needs.

Who is the group for?

This group is for people who are struggling with emotional distress that is hampering their functionality/quality of life and are looking for social support. The goal here is to help members find support that allows them to cope with their emotional distress.

What will we talk about?

• The nature of your struggles.
• How it’s affecting your life – physically, emotionally and socially.
• What are the existing support structures in your life?
• What feels helpful/supportive and what doesn’t.
• How to ask for/receive support.
• How to provide support when you’re struggling yourself - learning to understand your limits and how to work with them.
• How to get through the bad days – exploring/comparing strategies and methods.

  • Biggest benefit has been listening and learning about what other people are thinking

    Ketki

    Have depression since teen years

  • I just had a very emotional discussion. It was probably one of the most helpful things for me in years.

    Isha

Mom. Navigating hormones & chronic pain.

  • I'd give it a 10 [out of 10]. I'm surprised at how vulnerable and open everyone was in the first session.

    Sujay

    Late-in-life depression & anxiety.

What happens in a group session?

While the format can vary as per topic, here’s a flow that most sessions follow

Check In. Participants check-in with each others' feelings and answer the prompt given by the facilitator if any.

Conversation. Your facilitator will guide the group in a free-flowing conversation—with the goal of sharing openly, talking honestly, and deep emotional connection.

Check Out. Participants share what they're taking away from the session.

What am i going to get out of this?

Participants say that they feel heard, understood, more in control, and a feeling that you’ve got people rooting for you. By talking about your emotions and what's going on in your life, you'll realise that you're not alone and get ideas for how to improve your situation.
