This was truly one of the most inefficient and ineffective therapy sessions ever. The session went over 50 minutes, it lasted 1 hour 20 mins almost. Informed consent wasn't taken, confidentiality wasn't discussed. I didn't feel heard, seen, or understood. I was invalidated. I discussed my diagnoses of ADHD, PMDD, GAD, and Chronic Depression and I was made to feel bad for choosing medication in 2022 when I approached a psychiatrist with my symptoms. I am a therapist myself and I don't know what therapist jumps to provide advice without fully listening to or understanding the context of the client. The therapist advised me morning walks, and telling myself "I'm happy" repeatedly— essentially asking me to talk myself into feeling better. This was done within the first 15-20 mins of the session, before she had heard the range and extent of my problems. My distress was severely minimized, I was compared to people my age who may also struggle with things but are able to somehow manage them better— making me feel so much worse in the process. I spoke about my dysfunctional relationship with my father and before fully understanding the situation Dr Mathur ran to defend my father, extending full support to him, instead of hearing about my experiences. Offered advise such as taking a vacation. Dr. Mathur is also not up-to-date with queer affirmative practices. Despite repeatedly bringing up the level of distress I was experiencing, I was asked to watch movies and listen to music and told that my sadness was my own doing. I was told that things in my life are not less than ideal as I have a home and I'm "privileged", whatever does that mean? I do feel like I've left the session feeling entirely disappointed and disheartened. I don't think Dr. Mathur has a lot experience working as a therapist as her basics don't feel very clear. There is not much information about her qualifications and trainings either. I struggled for weeks to find a suitable therapist and ultimately decided to go ahead with Dr. Mathur because of her price point, but I feel so dejected now, because I'm going to have to go through the process again to attempt to find a good fit. I feel more distressed than I did before the session.

Therapy Bookings: Terms & Conditions

Sessions coordinated directly with the therapist

Once you book a session with a therapist via SoulUp, we put you in touch with them via WhatsApp allowing you and your therapist to coordinate on a mutually convenient time.

Cancellation policy

You can reschedule or cancel sessions or switch therapists upto 24 hours of the slotted time, post which no rescheduling or refund of sessions is possible.

Late to session policy

If you are over 15 mins late to the session, then the session will be held cancelled and no refund will be available. This has been done to ensure a 'full' session for you as well as to ensure enough gap-time for the therapist before their next session.

Cancelling part of a bundled session

For sessions bought as bundle of 4 at discounted price - if after n sessions, either the therapist or the client wants to discontinue sessions, we initiate refund of remaining sessions. In this case, the actual non-discounted price is deducted for each completed session (instead of the pro-rata amount per session) from the price of the bundled offering and the refund is issued.
