36 | Divorced | Director

In June 2021, in the middle of the second lockdown, my partner of 10 years decided to end our marriage on my birthday. When she told me she doesn't even want to do couples counselling and just wants to end things, I broke down. I consulted my best friend who happens to be a lawyer, he guided me on all the legal procedures and I agreed to the divorce. I went through a dramatic transformation in the months that followed. I did everything to work on myself, mentally and physically. I went through scheduled therapy for 6 months and avoided any pitfalls that you would expect when splitting from a long-term partner. Through a lot of self-reflection, I understood what were my issues in the relationship so I don't repeat it with my next partner. I started exercising and lost nearly 15 kgs in a year. I took regular counselling sessions with my therapist to work on my issues and came out a much better person. I adopted a kitten who has grown to be a wonderful cat and has claimed her rightful place as the majority place holder on my phone photo gallery.

I have been running a small business for the last 8 years and I have managed to grow that company to a team of 20 people. My work suffered for nearly a year post my divorce where I was losing motivation regularly. I had to learn to delegate much better and that in-turn created champions in my office. I am grateful to all my colleagues who stepped up knowing I was not in the right state of mind. Getting the drive and passion back was the most challenging thing as my ex-wife was a huge driver of my ambition. I have learned to channel my responsibilities and my desire for a better lifestyle into ambition now.
